“Yowalla gana warra” is Gunggari for “hello come dance.” The Gunggari people are an Aboriginal Australian people from the southern part of Queensland. The same people that Tahlija Redgards’ grandmother came from.

Tahlija has spent most of her adult life living out of a vehicle driving the coast surfing and fishing. The film pictures someone who’s life is shaped by the water whole heartedly and described in their own words.

“Yowalla gana warra” has some of the most exciting surfing I’ve seen in a long time. It is always exciting when you see someone ripping that you’ve never heard of before. Twin fins, finless, and traditional craft are all ridden at expert levels throughout.

Tahlija Regard is someone is worth watching if you want to see how to peacefully interact with the sea in more ways than one.
