Fran Lebowitz's 5 Points of Culture

by Cultured Magazine

Fran Lebowitz knows culture. She has been a cornerstone of what’s culturally significant since the early seventies. So, who better to ask five relatively vague questions to and let her wax poetic about whatever she has to say on the topics.

Here are some of my favorite things she said:

“ Something that simply isn’t annoying I’m grateful for.”

“During that era, there were, I would say ballet lunatics in the audience.”

“There’s nothing. Not even a shot. Not a second. Not a line of dialogue that you ever saw before. You’re young so there may be many things like that, but I’ve never seen this before.”

“I know people talk about clothes all the time, and you know, very few people seem to have any knowledge at all of clothes.”

“Understand that there is a difference between fashion and style.”

“The culture needs more knowledge and less opinion. I mean they’re entitled to their opinion, but I don’t want to hear it.”

“A sense of humor doesn’t mean you’re funny. It means you know things can be funny.”

“People show me their babies to see how smart they are. And I can always tell. And I can tell if… if you can make babies laugh…. If you can’t, if they don’t laugh; forget this baby’s not smart.”
