What the fuck is up Denny’s?!

a brief history of The Denny’s Grandslam

The famous call out (the whole show can be seen below)

“What’s up?! What’s Up?! What the fuck is up Denny’s?!” Words that will live in infamy.

The high-class restaurant chain Denny’s, introduced The Grand Slam breakfast in 1977 in Atlanta in celebration of baseball player Hank Aaron. The name and the breakfast did not find success until the 2018. It took Houston based hardcore band, Live Without, having the genius idea of playing a show in the carcass of a closing Denny’s to put the name on the map.

Originally filmed in 2013, Live Without were inspired to play a restaurant by two bands that had done it previously. Byleth played a Wendy’s in 2008 and Expire played a Portland Burgerville in 2012. They had been on the lookout for a restaurant venue when they overheard waiters at their local Denny’s mentioning that the location was going to be closing. They asked the manager if they could hold a show, and were given the ok.

The video was shared to YouTube the day after the show, and that is where is existed until the guitarist’s wife shared the famous call out that she filmed on Twitter in 2018. The rest is history. And history is beautiful.
