Few forms of racing can compare to the series of races that take place on the Baja Peninsula each year. A series of point A to B style desert races that test both man and machine, and their ability to works together. Teams are made up of 3 to 4 riders and what ever pit crew they can gather together to help them in their desire to challenge the landscape and other competitors.
This year the Deus backed team of Ciaran Nara, Forrest Minchinton, Nick Lapaglia, and Derek Asserbauer challenged 400 miles of open Baja California landscape. After weeks of preparation and planning they set out into the desert for what would be close to ten hours of holding their Husqvarna 450 as wide open as the terrain would allow. The riders held up and the bike held up and at the end of 400 miles they were the fastest.
Champagne was sprayed, tears were shed, and beers were drunk. After several years of taking on Baja and being denied, they had finally done it. A weight of their shoulders. It was all for something and not for nothing. As the hangovers cleared the next day Score informed the team that they had been accused of using a chase vehicle to stir up dust and impede other participants. While it was proven that the 3x team was impeded more so than any other team by the same vehicle Score had already issued the penalty and deemed it too late to reverse it.
That does not matter though. The emotions were real. The champagne was sweet. And for that short window of time they were the official winners of the Baja 400.
